Online MP4 Audio Extractor
MP4 is the most common video format: phones, cameras, screen recorders and video platforms all use it. The sound inside is usually AAC, which this tool decodes and saves on its own.
When to Extract Audio from MP4
Typical cases: turning a recorded interview, lecture or meeting into an audio file, saving the sound of a video podcast as an episode, pulling a voice-over out of a clip to clean it up, or sampling a sound from your own footage. Once you have the WAV, you can cut it with the Audio Trimmer or clean it up with the Sound Optimizer.
Which MP4 Files Work?
MP4 files with AAC audio, which is what phones, cameras, screen recorders and video-call apps produce, work in current browsers. Files with other audio formats, such as Dolby Digital (AC-3), and copy-protected videos from stores and streaming services cannot be decoded.
WAV or MP3: Which Output Should You Choose?
Choose WAV if you are going to edit the audio: it is uncompressed, so nothing more is lost when you cut, clean and save it. Choose MP3 if you just want a small file to listen to or share; 192 kbps is a good default, and 128 kbps is enough for speech. The audio in a video is almost always compressed already, so a WAV does not sound better than the video did; it only avoids a second round of compression.
Large Files and Several Videos
You can add up to 20 videos; they are processed one after another, and each result has its own player and download button. The whole video is loaded into your device’s memory before the audio is extracted. Clips and recordings of a few minutes are no problem, but very large files, such as long 4K recordings, can fail, especially on phones. If that happens, try a computer or a shorter clip.
