Online M4A to MP3 Converter
M4A is the format that iPhones, iPads and Macs use for voice memos and music: AAC audio inside an MP4 container. It sounds good and stays small, but not every program, website or car stereo accepts it.
When to Convert M4A to MP3
Convert when an M4A file is refused or does not play: a website that only takes MP3 uploads, a transcription service, a Windows program, an older car stereo or MP3 player. A voice memo that you want to email or send to someone with a different phone is the most common case. For editing in audio software, convert to WAV instead with the M4A to WAV Converter.
What Happens to the Quality?
M4A audio is already compressed, and MP3 compresses it a second time, so a little detail is lost. For speech such as voice memos, 128 kbps is plenty and you will not hear a difference. For music, choose 192 kbps or more.
Which MP3 Bitrate Should You Choose?
- 128 kbps: the smallest files; fine for speech and podcasts.
- 192 kbps: a good balance for music; this is the default.
- 256 kbps: for music you care about, at a modest increase in size.
- 320 kbps: the highest MP3 quality and the largest files.
Convert Several Files at Once
You can add up to 20 files in one go. They are converted one after another on your device, and each one gets its own download button; Download All saves them all. The sample rate and the channels of each file are kept: nothing is resampled, and mono stays mono.
