Online M4V Audio Extractor
M4V is Apple’s variant of MP4. Video exported from iMovie, HandBrake and similar programs often has this extension, and so do films and series bought in the iTunes Store.
When to Extract Audio from M4V
Use it for videos you made or exported yourself: a film from iMovie, a HandBrake conversion, a recorded presentation. Extract the soundtrack to edit it, to reuse a voice-over or to keep the audio of a talk without the picture.
Which M4V Files Work?
M4V files without copy protection are ordinary MP4 files with AAC audio and work in current browsers. Films and series bought or rented in the iTunes Store are protected with DRM; their audio cannot be extracted here.
WAV or MP3: Which Output Should You Choose?
Choose WAV if you are going to edit the audio: it is uncompressed, so nothing more is lost when you cut, clean and save it. Choose MP3 if you just want a small file to listen to or share; 192 kbps is a good default, and 128 kbps is enough for speech. The audio in a video is almost always compressed already, so a WAV does not sound better than the video did; it only avoids a second round of compression.
Large Files and Several Videos
You can add up to 20 videos; they are processed one after another, and each result has its own player and download button. The whole video is loaded into your device’s memory before the audio is extracted. Clips and recordings of a few minutes are no problem, but very large files, such as long 4K recordings, can fail, especially on phones. If that happens, try a computer or a shorter clip.
