When to Extract Audio from MOV
Use it to get the sound out of iPhone videos, screen recordings made on a Mac or footage from a camera: an interview you filmed, a voice note recorded as video, the ambience of a clip. The WAV can go straight into any audio editor, or into the Sound Optimizer to reduce noise and even out the volume.
Which MOV Files Work?
MOV files recorded on iPhones, iPads and Macs contain AAC audio and work in current browsers. MOV files from professional cameras and editing software sometimes contain uncompressed PCM or other audio formats; whether those open depends on the browser. If a file fails, try another browser, such as Safari on a Mac.
WAV or MP3: Which Output Should You Choose?
Choose WAV if you are going to edit the audio: it is uncompressed, so nothing more is lost when you cut, clean and save it. Choose MP3 if you just want a small file to listen to or share; 192 kbps is a good default, and 128 kbps is enough for speech. The audio in a video is almost always compressed already, so a WAV does not sound better than the video did; it only avoids a second round of compression.
Large Files and Several Videos
You can add up to 20 videos; they are processed one after another, and each result has its own player and download button. The whole video is loaded into your device’s memory before the audio is extracted. Clips and recordings of a few minutes are no problem, but very large files, such as long 4K recordings, can fail, especially on phones. If that happens, try a computer or a shorter clip.
